Mindful Balance

West County Community Services (also known as CFSA) is a multi human service agency serving youth, adults, families and seniors in Sonoma County. A variety of services are offered including: Homeless Shelter, Senior Services, Counseling Services and Adult & Youth Employment Services.

Mindful Balance is a project of West County Community Services made possible by donations and a grant from Yoga Dana Foundation. Classes are offered weekly in Guerneville and Santa Rosa. The intention for Mindful balance is to improve balance, strength, flexibility and peace of mind. This mind-body approach is a blend of Yoga postures (modified chair yoga), breathing exercises, and mindfulness meditation. The class is geared for older adults or anyone who prefers a gentle pathway to wellness. No experience is necessary.

Testimonial:

For me, the Mindful Balance class is the centerpiece for continuing an active life. I had been in physical therapy for several months before my insurance for it ran out and I heard about Mary's class in Sebastopol. In retrospect the physical therapy had made my pain worse. A diagnosis of adhesive capsulitis in both shoulders had left me with extremely limited rotation of those joints and with excruciating pain, especially at night. I could lift neither arm above the shoulder, could not pull on my lower garments, could not roll over in bed, could not change a light bulb; could not take care of my yard; could lie down in no other position than my back. My active life had come to a halt at age 68. Mary's gentle and kind and generous approach to mindful movement with yoga worked wonders on my shoulders and gave me a more positive and hopeful outlook. How lucky I feel to have such a skilled and compassionate teacher. I am very grateful for this class. I am a low income woman of 72.
